DAVE DINEEN-ABATE of IOWA #0001231

I joined ABATE by going to a meeting at Larry Longs in Centerville FEB. of 198? with Mouse Amos,Smiley Newman, and Danny Judge. This could have been the same meeting that Beans joined which would explain my number beig numerically lower due to 'D' before 'R' in the alphabet. I think Larry was the first coordinator followed by Sam Wilty. We held our meetings at Crazy Ray's in Mystic. Some others I remember were Doug Pim,Wazzo Curtis, Indian,Harpo and Chris Coates. As for my biking days, I started out on a dirt bike that I traded a high-power rifle for, then bought a 650 Yamaha.

In the summer of 1981 Harley was offering an $800 dollar rebate on their bikes and Matthews Harley in Des Moines was matching it with another $800 off, so 4 of us young dudes purchased new bikes on July 17th. Donnie Sinott and I bought Super-glide Fatbobs for $4231.00, Danny Judge bought a Low-Rider for $4900.00 and Porky Long bought a Electra Glide for $4650.00. THOSE WERE THE DAYS! (21 percent interest rates). Danny and I still have ours and mine is basically stock except for scratches, dings and stuff that shook off!

I've been to Sturgis, but some of the best rides were to the T.T. races in Peoria when there would be up to 80 bikes in double file, with bikes from Albia, Chariton, and Ottumwa meeting up on the road to the races. Another trip that is worth the ride is up the Mississippi to La Crosse and the Upper Iowa River.

I don't go to alot of runs as I have other interests in the summer such as helping out as crew chief on Don Sofrankos Super Stock Drag car. We have runnered up a National events at Topeka and Earlville and have over 16 class wins to our credit. I am and avid Pheasant and Quail hunter and enjoy spring Turkey hunting too. I guess you could say "If it flys it dies". I'm a past president of Cedar Creek Pheasants Forever and am a current board member. I work at the ALBIA news papers as a graphic artist in the pre-press dept.
